For a detailed description see: https://www.scaledagileframework.com/pi-planning/. Below you find a summary and some real examples of one of our customers. We have 3 fully licensed SAFe Program Consultants (SPCs) and experienced SAFe consultants working for us which have over 2 years of experience with PI Plannings for many different teams. Please contact us if you need any help with your own PI plannings.
Program Increment (PI) Planning is a cadence-based, face-to-face event that serves as the heartbeat of the Agile Release Train (ART), aligning all the teams on the ART to a shared mission and Vision.
Inputs to PI planning include:
- Business context (see content readiness below)
- Roadmap and vision
- Top 10 Features of the Program Backlog
A successful PI planning event delivers two primary outputs:
- Committed PI objectives A set of SMART objectives that are created by each team with the business value assigned by the Business Owners.
- Program board This highlights the new feature delivery dates, feature dependencies among teams and with other ARTs, and relevant Milestones.
Below you see the main features for one of our customers.
We prioritized these features via Weighted Shortest Job First (WSJF). For a detailed description see the SAFe website: https://www.scaledagileframework.com/wsjf/. But the main thing is that you prioritize features relative to each other features. The discussion during the WSJF will lead to consensus among the business stakeholders and a clear list of priorities.
Below you see a list op features prioritized by WSJF and a program board of one of our customers.
